Materazzo is appointed as struggling Hoffenheim’s boss

Pellegrino Materazzo takes over as new Hoffenheim boss after he was sacked by Stuttgart in October.

Hoffenheim have appointed Pellegrino Materazzo as their new head coach after the club parted with Andre Breitenreiter on Monday.

Matarazzo previously worked at another struggling Bundesliga club,

Stuttgart

, but was sacked 4 month ago due to poor results.

Hoffenheim

, who once boasted Champions League qualifications, are now just two points above the relegation zone. They have only two points from their recent 9 games with their last match being a 5-2 defeat against Vfl Bochum.

Materazzo has previously spent time at Hoffenheim, first as a U17 coach and then as an assistant coach to the first team.

"As I've been living in the region since 2017, I've witnessed TSG's development first-hand even after my exit",

Matarazzo said after his appointment was confirmed on Wednesday.

"The situation is undoubtedly demanding. I'm convinced of the team's quality and will approach the task full of verve and with great confidence.

"TSG is synonymous with offensive, courageous and fresh football. I want to quickly get the team back to playing the kind of football that has set them apart for many years."

Materazzo will be taking over his first training session on Wednesday and will face Bayer Leverkusen in his first match in charge.
