De Gea optimistic about Manchester United contract negotiations

The Spanish goalkeeper's contract with Man United is due to expire next summer with ongoing negotiations regarding a long-term renewal after his marvelous performances this season.

David De Gea

has made 8 clean sheets this term; a tally that only Newcastle United's Nick Pope bettered. The Red Devils have the option to trigger a one-year extension in the Spaniard's current contract. However, the player revealed talks have been held over a longer-term renewal.

"

We're still talking. I'm just focused on the games, that's the most important thing, but for sure it's going to end in a good way,"

De Gea said of his contract negotiations.

"I've been in very tough moments for this club. Now I'm enjoying it more. It's great.

"The team spirit is great, the atmosphere is great. Everyone is thinking in the same way, playing in the same way.

"We have a good manager, good players who bring experience to the team, people who want the ball, who play well with the ball. It's a mix of everything."

De Gea joined

Man United

from Atletico Madrid in 2011 and has made more than 500 appearances for the United.
