Enzo Fernandez demands the press not tarnish his history with Benfica

On the January transfer deadline day, Enzo Fernandez completed a £105m move to Chelsea as he became the Blues' record signing. In his farewell letter, he emotionally demands the press not sabotage his Benfica career.

After his marvelous performance in the 2022 World Cup with Argentina,

Chelsea

's third £105m offer finally broke the deadlock in

Enzo Fernandez

's transfer as the player joined the Premier League giants as well as becoming the biggest signing of their history.

The Argentine midfielder posted a farewell to

Benfica

and their fans on Instagram, saying:

"Thank you very much, Benfica fans. My family and I are grateful for all the affection received in these five months, I am grateful to God for giving me the opportunity to play for one of the biggest clubs in the world, where I enjoyed every moment to the fullest and always gave my best.

"May the press not tarnish what we built together because it was something wonderful that I had never imagined. Thank you to everyone who works to make the institution even greater than it is. Thank you to my colleagues for always treating me in the best way and make me feel at home. Thanks to the club's management and especially to Roger Schmidt and his entire team for their trust and daily respect. I was very happy. Thank you, I carry Benfica forever in my heart."

After seeing two of their bids rejected, Chelsea finally reached an agreement with Benfica to sign Enzo Fernandez on a permanent long-term deal for a fee of £105m which is the British transfer record.
