Chelsea step up their interest in Enzo Fernandez and Malo Gusto

It was reported before January that Chelsea has started the negotiations with Benfica for Enzo Fernandez. With the Portuguese club eying Fernandez's €120m release clause, Chelsea is ready to make a new bid for the Argentina international.

Chelsea

has spent almost £500m in the Todd Boehly area, signing 16 players. However, they are keen to add more players to Graham Potter's squad during the January transfer window.

According to

Sky Sports

, the Blues are ready to make a new offer for the Benfica midfielder

Enzo Fernandez

, who attracted their attention during the 2022 World Cup. Although Benfica insists on Fernandez's £106m release clause, the Blues want to lower the fee by sending players on loan as part of the deal.

Real Madrid and Barcelona are reportedly preparing a summer move for the 22-year-old while Benfica has been trying to sign a new contract with the player.

In addition to a new midfielder, Chelsea wants to provide cover for injured Reece James as they are in talks with Lyon over a deal for their 19-year-old right-back, Malo Gusto.
