Barcelona contact Real Madrid's Asensio over summer move

Barcelona reportedly is interested in signing Real Madrid forward Marco Asensio on a free transfer.

According to SPORT newspaper,

Barcelona

has contacted

Marco Asensio

over a potential move in the summer.

Real Madrid

forward will be a free agent at the end of the season, and the negotiations over extending it have not been successful.

SPORT claims that Barcelona has contacted Asensio’s agent Jorge Mendes to see if he would be interested in joining Real Madrid's biggest rival.

After a victory over Villarreal in the Copa Del Ray on Thursday, Asensio said that his preference is to stay at Real Madrid.

He told reporters:

“Things are being discussed, we’ll see where it goes. I’m focused on myself and the next game. I hope everything comes to fruition. I want to renew and be at Madrid for a long time, but it’s not something that depends only on me. For me the most important thing is the sporting side and being happy.”

Asensio was close to leaving Real last summer due to lack of playing time, but in the end, he decided to stay for another season. In October, there were reports that he is close to extending his contract with Real Madrid, but his future still is unclear.

The 27-year-old Asensio joined Real Madrid in 2016 and since then has played in 257 matches and has scored 52 goals. He has won 14 trophies with Real including three Champions League and three La Liga titles. The Spanish winger has scored 3 goals for Carlo Ancelotti’s side this season.
