in a deal worth £87m. Mudryk paraded in front of the fans at Stamford Bridge with a Ukraine flag draped over his shoulders.

Shakhtar Donetsk

owner and president Rinat Akhmetov announced on Monday that he has decided to donate a huge sum of this transfer to the Ukraine war effort. He also decided to launch “a project designed to help Mariupol defenders and the families of fallen soldiers”. The 56-year-old mining magnate is Ukraine’s richest man.

“I am allocating $25m (UAH 1 billion, £20m) today to help our soldiers, defenders, and their families. The money will be used to cover different needs – from providing medical and prosthetic treatment and psychological support to meeting specific requests,"

he said.

“To ensure transparency, the project will have a professional independent team that will be in touch with the Azovstal defenders, their families, care providers, and volunteers.”

The 22-year-old Mudryk has scored seven goals and provided six assists this season. He was Arsenal’s number one target in the January transfer window but in the end, Chelsea managed to reach an agreement with Shakhtar and signed him.

Mudryk is Chelsea’s fifth signing of the January transfer window after Joao Felix, Andrey Santos, Benoit Badiashile, and David Datro Fofana. The English club has spent over £400m on transfers since an American consortium brought them from Roman Abramovich in May.
