Lampard reacts to Everton fan protests calling it ‘an unfortunate day’
Lampard’s Everton continued their winless form as an “unfortunate” defeat to Southampton was worsened by fan protests.
Everton’s run of bad form continues as they lost 2-1 at home to Southampton. The “unfortunate” result came with Everton fans protesting after full time.
Even before the start of the match, it was mired in controversy as violent death threats to Everton owners, had
kept them away from attending the matchdue to safety reasons. The threats came from angry fans who have been unhappy with the club’s state for some time now.
Despite taking the lead, Lampard’s men fell to a brace by the Saints captain, James Ward-Prowse which leave them in the relegation zone for now.
Speaking after the match, Lampard told reporters:
"I know I'm not a miracle worker, I know I am not the best manager in the world but I'll try my best.”
He then commented on the Everton board being forced to miss the game:
"It's a difficult time. I'm more concerned that we didn't win the game.
"It is an unfortunate day,"
he added to Sky Sports.
"We have to take responsibility, myself first. We have to do better. When you take this job you understand the nature of it. I want to get things right here. I will try and do the best job I can possibly do. We had amazing times last year staying up when people thought we would be relegated."
This was the
Toffees10th defeat of the season who are now on level points with Southampton at the bottom of the table.
