Laporta confirms Barcelona's interest in Neves as their new number 6
The Portuguese star is rumored to be eying a move away from Wolverhampton at the end of the 2022-23 season, with the Blaugrana’s president considering him as a suitable replacement for Sergio Busquets.
is looking into other alternatives to replace the 34-year-old Busquets, whose contract with the La Liga giants is due to expire this summer. Among the Blaugrana's key targets is Wolverhampton's
Ruben Neves, who Barcelona president Joan Laporta stressed during his Thursday interview with
Sport.
"
Neves is a great player, but this is part of private conversations,"
Laporta said.
"Busquets will not be eternal and there are internal discussions to find him a substitute with guarantees. Frenkie de Jong can play in this position, but he won't do with a single player. Xavi will end up deciding this."
However, Laporta believes
Sergio Busquetswill remain with the club until the end of the season. He added:
"There is a good relationship with his representative, Jorge Mendes. He wants to continue at Barca and we have everything covered."
