De Gea “very relaxed” about contract talks with United as he aims to finish his career at Old Trafford

The Spanish shot-stopper is one of the highest earners in the Premier League but he claims he is “very relaxed” about finding an agreement with United.

David De Gea will be a free player in the summer but he is confident that he will reach an agreement with Manchester United over a contract extension while also aiming to finish his career at Old Trafford.

Having joined the club in 2011 from Atletico Madrid, De Gea has won a Premier League title, a Europa League trophy, an FA Cup and a League Cup with the Red Devils, appearing in over 500 matches for them.

De Gea

’s current contract was signed in 2019 and runs until the end of this season but it has an option to extend a year further. His reported salary of £375,000 made David De Gea one of the top 3 earners in the Premier League which makes his contract extension a bit difficult for the 32-year-old.

Earlier this month, United triggered some of their players’ extension option for a further year as Rashford, Luke Shaw, Dalot and Fred’s contract have been extended but De Gea wasn’t among those players. However, he was very relaxed about the whole situation as he was interviewed by Sky Sports.

"I'm very relaxed. I just focus on training, perform as best as I can. But, for sure, it's going to end in a good way,"

he told Sky Sports.

"I hope [to stay for the rest of my career]. I was saying this is my club, I've been here many, many years and it's a huge honor to be here and I'm so happy here."

De Gea went on to talk a bit about United’s fine form after the World Cup, identifying the reasons behind their success.

"We were talking, everyone is ready, everyone is focused, everyone is training really well, everyone is in the same direction, so this is massive,"

De Gea added.

"It doesn't matter who is playing. Even the substitutes, it doesn't matter who came in, they put everything on the pitch, we have great team spirit and for me it's great to see the players play in this way."

While a replacement for David De Gea isn’t an option for

United

as of now, they may look for a back-up goalkeeper as they look at players like Jack Butland.
