Enzo Fernandez focused on Benfica amid transfer talk

Argentina star Enzo Fernandez says he does not pay attention to transfer speculation and is focused on his team.

Europe's top clubs including

Liverpool

and Manchester United are interested in the signing of

Enzo Fernandez

after his impressive performances at the World Cup.

The 21-year-old midfielder made his senior international debut for Argentina in September 2022 and played a key role in Argentina's World Cup triumph. He was on the bench for the first two games but played from start in the last five games and later was named the young player of the tournament.

Fernandez who joined

Benfica

from River Plate last summer has responded to recent speculations about his future.

"I don't know anything about [a transfer],"

he told fans in his homeland

. "It's up to my agent, I don't want to get involved. I'm focused on Benfica, in a few days we have an important game.”

Earlier in December, reports in Portugal suggested that Benfica has rejected an offer from a Premier League club. Now Portuguese newspaper A Bola claims that Benfica already has rejected a bid from Newcastle and they are fearful that Newcastle could trigger Enzo Fernandez's £105 million release clause.

Fernandez is an academy graduate of River Plate and made his first-team debut for the club in 2019. He scored 12 goals in 51 matches for the club and won Argentine Primera Division in 2021.

He joined Benfica for €10 million and has scored 3 goals in 24 matches. Benfica is eight points clear at top of Liga Portugal and will face Club Brugge in the Champions League last 16 round in February.
