Australia 1–0 Denmark: The Socceroos left no chance for the others

Being Group D runner-ups behind reigning champions France with three points, a positive result against Denmark on Wednesday sends Australia to the next level while the Danish side needed nothing less than a win.

After a crushing 4-1 defeat to France in matchday 1,

Australia

revived their hopes with a 1-0 victory over Tunisia. A win against Denmark on Wednesday would see the Australians reach the knockout stage of the tournament for the second time in their history.

Meanwhile, after an outstanding Euro 2020 competition,

Denmark

stayed winless after two matches with only one point gathered from Tunisia as Christian Eriksen’s side needed a victory over the Australians to proceed to the next level.

While Denmark dominated the first half as it was expected, they failed to create too many chances as their best chance was when Ryan stopped Souttar from putting Maehle's cross into their own goal. Denmark continued to push for a winner but a stunning solo goal from Matthew Leckie in the 60th minute put them in the most vulnerable position as the Australians showcased a solid defensive performance. that canceled Tunisia's surprise victory over France to send the socceroos to the knockout-stage of the tournament.
