Lionel Messi 'not close' to reaching Inter Miami agreement

Paris Saint-Germain star Lionel Messi prefers to stay in European football at least for one more season.

The Times newspaper reported on Saturday that

Lionel Messi

is close to agreeing to a deal with the US club

Inter Miami.

Times claimed that the deal would make him the highest-paid player in the history of the MLS.

But now Sky Sports and ESPN report that the 35-year-old Messi has not agreed to a deal to join Inter Miami and prefers to stay at PSG at least for one more season.

Messi’s

PSG

contract, reportedly worth £1.2 million a week, expires at the end of the season. He joined PSG last year on a two-year deal on a free transfer. Messi struggled in his first season away from Barcelona, but this season he has scored 12 goals and provided 10 assists in all competitions.

Sky Sports claims that Messi is focusing on the World Cup and will consider his options after the tournament. Barcelona president Joan Laporta has expressed interest in re-signing Messi, two years after his departure from the Camp Nou.

Messi has a home in Miami and enjoys holidays there with his family. He also told the media last year that playing in the United States has always been his dream, but Sky Sports claims that he still wants to play in Europe until at least 2024 or even 2025.

Messi scored in a 2-0 win over Mexico on Saturday in Argentina's second match at the World Cup. They will play Poland next on Wednesday.
