Elanga understands Ronaldo's criticism of Man Utd's young players

Manchester United forward Anthony Elanga has defended Cristiano Ronaldo following criticism over his controversial interview.

Ronaldo

who has started just four league games this season, criticised Manchester United manager Eric ten Hag, the club’s owners, and his former teammates, in an explosive interview with Piers Morgan.

Ronaldo also criticised

Manchester United

's young players and claimed they lack hunger. The 20-year-old

Elanga

now has said he can understand Ronaldo’s criticism.

Elanga said:

"Cristiano talks about young players in general.

"We are a new generation. I am always 100 per cent focused on what I am doing, but I can understand what he is saying.

"There are a lot of phones and a lot of technology. It's quite easy for young players to get distracted and lose focus. Young players at United are listening, but I can understand what he is saying."

Elanga also said that since his return to Manchester United in 2021, Ronaldo has helped him a lot and is an inspiration to him.

"He has helped me a lot not only on the pitch, but off it as well,"

Elanga said.

"He is an inspiration, not only to me but to all the young players at United. Sometimes it's just me and him at the gym.

"When I'm with him, he hasn't changed. He is still Cristiano Ronaldo to me. He has helped me a lot."

It is unlikely that Ronaldo will ever play again for Manchester United after the club confirmed on Friday that they have appointed lawyers to explore potential action against the Portuguese star for alleged breach of contract.
