Wolves appoint Julen Lopetegui as manager

Wolves have announced they have appointed Julen Lopetegui as their new head coach.

He officially begins his new role after the Arsenal fixture on November 12, which means he will not take charge of any games before the World Cup break.

The 56-year-old Lopetegui was sacked as Sevilla's manager last month. Lopetegui was sacked with Sevilla in 17th position in LaLiga. He was appointed as Sevilla's manager in 2019 after his departure from Real Madrid and won the Europe League with

Sevilla

in his first season.

Wolves

chairman Jeff Shi said:

“Julen is a top coach, with excellent experience at an elite level of the game, and we are very pleased to have agreed a deal to bring him to Wolves.

“Since the very beginning, Julen has been our number one choice to manage Wolves, and we look forward to welcoming him and his team when they join us in the coming weeks.”

Wolves wanted to appoint Lopetegui last month but he turned down their offer due to family issues. The Premier League club then decided to appoint Steve Davis as interim manager until the end of the season but the negotiations between Wolves and Lopetegui restarted last week and this time, both parties came to an agreement.

Currently, Wolves are in the 9th place on the table with just 10 points after 13 matches. They have only won two

Premier League

matches this season.

Lopetegui's first match will be away to Everton in the Premier League on 26 December.
