Unai Simon and Diogo Costa on United's radar to replace De Gea

Manchester United is considering Athletic Bilbao goalkeeper, Unai Simon and Porto goalkeeper, Diogo Costa as a replacement for David De Gea.

The 31-year-old De Gea has been Manchester United’s first-choice goalkeeper this season but his future is uncertain at Old Trafford as he is in the final year of his contract.

He joined United in 2011 from Atletico Madrid and since then has played in 503 matches. De Gea has won 4 major trophies with Manchester United including Premier League in 2013 and Europe League in 2017.

According to Athletic, Manchester United scouts are watching different goalkeepers and the club's leading goalkeeping scout, Tony Coton, has identified Porto's Diego Costa and Athletic's Unai Simon as potential additions. Ten Hag is unconvinced by De Gea and prefers to sign a ball-playing goalkeeper.

Athletic reports that Manchester United may offer De Gea a new deal with a much lower wage and then sign another goalkeeper to challenge him.

The 25-year-old Simon has already replaced De Gea on Spain's national team and is set to start for Spain at the World Cup in Qatar.

The 23-year-old Costa also became the first goalkeeper to save three consecutive penalties in Champions League history. The Portuguese international is valued by Porto at around €30m.

Manchester United’s goalkeeper Dean Henderson is on loan at Nottingham Forest and is set to return to Old Trafford but he could then leave the club permanently next summer.
