Lineker calls Ronaldo’s Tottenham walk-off “unacceptable”

The Portugal international tried to become the centre of the Red Devils’ story but he had not yet played any part in, says Gary Lineker.

Cristiano Ronaldo

showed “unacceptable” behavior when he walked off when Manchester United were on the verge of closing their victory over Tottenham, according to Gary Lineker. The Portuguese striker, who was not used as a substitute in Wednesday’s clash against Tottenham, walked to the tunnel before the game was over.

As per reports from The Athletic, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner departed the stadium immediately and did not celebrate their victory with his teammates. The Red Devils showcased their best display of the season and sealed their sixth victory of the season, which put them fifth in the Premier League table. All of these happened without the presence of the Portuguese. Although he hit a hat-trick in last season’s game with the same side, he was not included in the team that won 2-0 this week. Therefore, he tried to attract attention by leaving the stadium early.

Erik ten Hag wants to “deal with” the situation on Thursday and Lineker, the ex-Barcelona striker, believes Ronaldo’s behavior was unacceptable.

"Cristiano Ronaldo: now we all know what a great player he's been and stuff like that, but walking off the pitch as a substitute with two minutes to go, before the game is finished, I'm sorry, but that's unacceptable. That's poor, isn't it?"

Lineker said.

Pundit Micah Richards, an ex-Manchester City defender, also believes that the striker was out of order.

"It's so poor,"

said Richards

. "For someone we've looked up to for so long, one of the greats of the game, to do that when your team are winning, making it about him, it's unacceptable."

United’s performance was amazing, with Fred and Bruno Fernandes finding the target in the 47th and 69th minute, respectively.

Ten Hag talked to Amazon Prime post-match and revealed that he will have a discussion with Ronaldo another day.

"I will deal with [Ronaldo] tomorrow, not today,"

he said.

"Today we celebrate this victory, and now we have to recover from this."

The manager then talked about his decision to use Marcus Rashford rather than Ronaldo.

"What we needed was we needed good pressing, you need a good counter-press, because from there you can create chances,"

Ten Hag said.

"Offensive-wise you need dynamic, so that is what Marcus can give you in a game."
