Barcelona manager Xavi: “People raise their fists at me but I’m positive”

Barcelona's 3-1 Clasico loss to Real Madrid increased the pressure on their head coach, Xavi Hernandez, as his side might even miss out on the Champions League's knock-out stage. However, Xavi remains faithful to his outlook.

Ahead of

Barcelona’s

Wednesday La Liga clash with Villarreal, Xavi insists the increasing pressure would not alter the expectations he has of his side as he eyes winning trophies this season.

Sitting second in the La Liga table with a 3-point difference to

Real Madrid

, who they lost to last weekend, Barcelona also faces fierce competition to qualify from their Champions League group chasing second-placed

Inter

with three points and two games to play against Bayern and Viktoria Plzen. Xavi told his pre-match press conference:

"I think we've made a team to win titles.

"I am excited, people give me encouragement. I have a mobile with so many messages that it seems like a family member has died.

"The transition was in the last half-season. If we don't succeed, as the president said, there will be consequences, especially for me.

"I'm here to solve problems, and if we don't win, another coach will come. I'm not going to hide."

Being asked when he might

lose his Barcelona job

due to the recent results,

Xavi Hernandez

said:

"Anytime, tomorrow. On the street, people raise their fists at me. But I am positive.

"We have lost at Madrid, and we can be knocked out in Europe. Well, I will keep fighting."

The Spaniard insists on building on the club's previous "exciting individual triumphs" as

Gavi

won Kopa Trophy and

Robert Lewandowski

the Muller Trophy.

"For me, [Gavi's] award is more than deserved,"

the coach said.

"I take this opportunity to congratulate Alexia and Robert Lewandowski.

"These awards mean that Barca is more alive than ever. It's exciting to see our players win individual prizes. Now the collective prizes are missing."
