David de Gea's "super proud" of the 500th Manchester United appearance

Should he be named in Erik ten Hag's clash against Newcastle United on Sunday, the goalkeeper will become the 11th player to make 500 appearances for Manchester United. The Spaniard shared his excitement for reaching the milestone.

Joining

Manchester United

from Atletico  in 2011,

David de Gea

is likely to become the 11th player to appear 500 or more times for Manchester United in their Sunday Premier League clash against

Newcastle United

.

The Spaniard becomes the only second goalkeeper after

Alex Stepney

to reach the milestone. De Gea told

the club's official website

:

"I think it's something crazy. To play 500 games for this club is very special for me, of course.

"But probably, I will realize more when I stop playing football, when I retire and then look back and say 'okay, I played more than 500 games for a massive club like United.' I'm super proud, and it's amazing, to be honest.

"Just to be part of this club is massive and it's so difficult to get here, so it's a dream to be here and already play as much as I've played. It's unbelievable."

Ryan Giggs, Sir Bobby Charlton, Paul Scholes, Bill Foulkes, Gary Neville, Wayne Rooney, Alex Stepney, Tony Dunne, Denis Irwin, and Joe Spence are the 11 players that have made 500 or more appearances for

the Red Devils

.
