Gasperini is happy with Atalanta's 2-2 Serie A draw at Udinese

Although Udinese completed a comeback against Atalanta on Sunday as they were leading 2-0, the La Dea boss believes his side should be happy with the result.

The 2-2 Sunday draw at

Udinese

created a 2-point gap to the top of the table for La Dea as goals from Lookman and Muriel seemed to secure

Atalanta

all three points. a stunning free kick from Gerard Deulofeu and another goal from Nehuen Perez earned the host a well-earned point.

Gian Piero Gasperini,

who celebrated his 300th game in charge of Atalanta, told

DAZN

:

“We should be happy with this result, albeit considering it arrived in a moment when we had the game in hand and a deserved two-goal lead.

“Deulofeu’s free kick was an energy boost for Udinese and we were unable to keep our levels up despite the substitutions. We played with character, made the most of the spaces open to us, but this is a game that will help us to learn and mature.

“I could not have asked for a better time together. We don’t look back, though, as there are many more targets to achieve in future. The team has been renovated with young players and we are trying to grow up fast.”

Lookman

was shown a yellow card after his goal celebration, where he was doing his trademark

“binoculars”.

Gasperini said:

“It was misinterpreted, he is not a lad who tries to stir up trouble.”

Asked whether Atalanta is targeting a return to the

Champions League

, Gasperini said:

“No, we have to focus on improving our performances now and not think of other matters.”
