Salernitana owner: "Ribery is a leader; I would like him next to me"

Despite rumours that he is retiring, Franck Ribery may still have a significant impact at Salernitana.

Club president

Danilo Iervolino

has said that, should

Franck Ribery

retire, he may be able to take on a non-playing job at

Salernitana

. The winger, who is 39 years old and captains the Serie A club, has reportedly been plagued by knee ailments and may declare his retirement as soon as next week.

The former France international has only appeared twice for Salernitana this season across all competitions after joining the club from Fiorentina last year.

It now seems like his playing days are numbered, but Iervolino has disclosed that there have been talks about the possibility of him taking on a coaching or managerial role. It's a two-way street, he assured

DAZN

.

"Frank is a great champion on and off the pitch, and he manages to bring out the best in everyone. He is a leader. We will put him in a role he wants. I would like him next to me."

In the same vein, Head Coach

Davide Nicola

said:  "We asked him, [so] let's see.  He has such a high status that he can play any role. But I asked him to [stay] close [to us]. However, we will listen to what he says."

Ribery, formerly of

Bayern Munich

, where he won nine Bundesliga titles, has made 25 appearances for Salernitana in all competitions since joining the club in 2021.
