Barcelona President Laporta on his Super League adjustments

The Blaugrana are among the three teams that are keen on having a European Super League although there has not been any potential possibility of it happening.

Florentino Perez talked about why having a Super League is important when talking to the club members of Real Madrid’s General Assembly.

Joan Laporta

, the Barcelona President, has also made a statement regarding the issue again. As per reports from Marca, Laporta tried to focus on some of the doubts regarding the Super League that fans might have.

“I entered into the Super League as a representative of Barca with everything already quite advanced. My criteria was, to get rid of a closed league, we have a to have an Super League, there must be a meritocracy.”

“And there is another thing we have to combine it with, the Super League with the leagues of every country. For me, that is incredibly important. I believe in the leagues of every country and for me it would be a serious error if the Super League substitutes the leagues.”

He went on to comment on Europe’s biggest clubs going against one another constantly and many wonder whether the bigger revenues are at the centre of the matter.

“I think that playing between the big clubs just amongst ourselves all the time would get tiring. It would end up tired. For those of us who like football, we would end up tired. It is beautiful and healthy that a smaller team beats a big one. Going for the underdog is very beautiful. And when Leicester won in England it was special. That is football.”

“A Super Leauge that will be an improved Champions League. With a very good format of the competition, it will definitely be the most attractive competition in the world.”

Considering that Barcelona and Real Madrid share some of the biggest parts of the revenue in La Liga, making sure that underdogs do not get enough chances of beating big clubs is not farfetched. That might be one of the reasons behind why Laporta and Barcelona are insisting on forging ahead with the plan.
