Mikel Arteta reacts to Arsene Wenger's title hopes for Arsenal

Sitting at top of the Premier League with a one-point advantage over City and the Spurs, Arsene Wenger tipped his former side to win the Premier League title this season. However, Mikel Arteta believes it’s too early for assumptions.

Arsenal

returned to the top of the Premier League table with a 0-3 victory against Brentford on Sunday. Having won six of their first seven games this season,

Mikel Arteta

's side only dropped points against Manchester United, suffering a 3-1 defeat at Old Trafford.

With last season's runner-up Liverpool struggling, the former Gunners boss Arsene Wenger tips the Gunners to push for the Premier League title this season. Ahead of their Sunday Premier League game against Liverpool, Arteta responded to

Arsene Wenger

 words.

He said:

"Well, it's great obviously that the people who love the club so much and know the club very well have such an opinion about it.

"Now, unfortunately, we have to show it, but you have to do it on the pitch. And hopefully, he's right. He's been right on many occasions."

Liverpool

is 11 points behind Arsenal in the Premier League table as the Reds' boss

Jurgen Klopp

argues they are a work in progress. Arteta responded:

"Our team is as well.

"I think you always want to get better. You always hear about the weaknesses that you want to improve. Liverpool are a magnificent team."

"Every game is the same [opportunity to make a statement],"

Arteta noted the Reds’ threats.

"Obviously, it's a big match.

"It's a fixture that everybody's looking for, against an opponent that has shown in the last five or six years the level that they have.

"And we have to show those opponents again that we have reached the level and we are ready to compete against them."
