reports that a decision will soon be made. Should they reach an agreement, Atletico would pay the Catalans €20m (£17.5m/$19.7m) as well as variables for the player when the season ends. The Frenchman should take a pay cut of about 25% if he wants Atletico to meet the Financial Fair Play rules.

He made a move back to Atletico on a loan contract in 2021 and it included an option to buy for €40m (£35m/$40m). However, it would be triggered is he featured 45 minutes in half of Atletico’s clashes this season. Barca and Atleti are negotiating over the final details of the clause which resulted in Los Rojiblancos restricting his game time this season. The Frenchman could not deliver the penalty against Club Brugge in the Champions League clash and he has just met the target 10 times from 16 spot kicks he was given by Diego Simeone’s side across all competitions.

The speculations regarding the player would reach an end if an agreement is reached and the player would also be relieved. Griezmann is eager to have more minutes this time around, especially before the World Cup in Qatar.

Atletico will next lock horns with Girona in La Liga on Saturday.
