Neville: Trent Alexander-Arnold could be the best right-back ever

Gary Neville says Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold could become the best right-back ever if improves his defensive game.

Trent Alexander-Arnold

has been criticized for his performances this season for Liverpool and after Saturday's draw at home to

Brighton

once again he was criticized for his defending.

Gary Neville on Monday Night Football program praised

Liverpool

defender but said he must address the imbalance in his game.

“We have one of the great talents this country has produced in his position, but I said a couple of years ago, his defending would hurt him. Just in these last seven or eight games, Liverpool are conceding in Trent's area. He isn’t a young player anymore. [Yes] age, but not experience.

“What surprises me still is three or four of the very basic things, communicating, determination, sensing danger etc. can’t be taught, but four things can.”

After Arnold was an unused substitute for England’s game against Italy and failed to make the squad for the game against Germany, Jurgen Klopp defended his player. Nevills also said the 23-year-old Arnold could be the best ever in his position.

”The hard part of the game he is doing. No full-back that I have ever seen in this country can do what he can do, so if he can just work on those four basic things and get those consistency elements with those things, we won't have just one of the best attacking right-backs this country has ever produced, we'll probably have the best right-back the world has ever produced!.”
