Official: Callum Wilson extends his contract with Newcastle until 2026
Callum Wilson and Newcastle United have reached an agreement on a two-year contract extension.
Since the summer, discussions have been going on between Newcastle and the
Englandinternational footballer because he triggered a clause in his original contract that was supposed to last until 2024.
Wilson has now signed a new deal that will keep him at
St. James' Park
until 2026.
Eddie Howe
will be happy that the 30-year-old striker signed a new contract because he has always seen him as a key part of his plans for the club.
Wilson returned to play over the weekend and scored in the 4-1 win over
Fulham. Howe was quick to praise him for his performance.
"He’s a hugely important part of our team, a focal point. We rely not just on his goals but his movement, his work rate. His appearance in the team gave us confidence," said Howe."
"He’s got an incredible attitude to the game, an incredible way of looking at life and football. He will see it as healthy competition. It will inspire him to perform better because he knows he’s got someone, plus Chris Wood, breathing down his neck and that’s very healthy for the team."
