Barca still have to pay €50m for the transfers of Pjanic and Coutinho

Barcelona are said to still owe up to €144 million on a variety of incoming transfers from years ago.

Barcelona

still struggling from previous transfers as they still owe €50m on

Miralem Pjanic

and

Philippe Coutinho

deals, even though both players have since left Camp Nou permanently.

To acquire Coutinho from

Liverpool

in 2018, Barça agreed to pay up to €160 million, making him one of the most expensive players in history. But things immediately went south for the Brazilian, as he went on loan to

Bayern Munich

and Aston Villa before joining the latter for a nominal amount this year.

On the other hand, Pjanic was part of a strange two-team trade that sent Arthur Melo to Juventus from the Catalans in the summer of 2020. According to AS, in Barça's upcoming economic report to members, the club will disclose that it owes €144 million in transfer costs. They owe little under €130m themselves, though, because many cutting-edge contracts feature installment payments.

Barça still owes Ajax €46 million for Frenkie de Jong and Sergino Dest, in addition to the €36 million and €14 million for Pjanic and Coutinho, respectively. Another €52 million must be sent to Manchester City for Ferran Torres. However,

Aston Villa

has yet to pay Barça €10 million for Coutinho, while Wolves has yet to pay Barça €6 million for Trincao.

Camp Nou vice president of economics Eduard Romeu revealed earlier this week that this chapter is still not over and that more work needs to be done, despite the fact that Barça's finances are in far better form than they were at the club's money trouble's zenith.

“We have saved Barça, but we still haven't resolved it,” Romeu explained. “We don't have it healthy; it involves a lot of austerity, a lot of rigour and there is a lot of work to do. In the 2024/25 season we will be at the level that corresponds to us.”
