Lazio president elected for Italian Senate

The president of Lazio, who is a member of Silvio Berlusconi's party, was able to enter the Italian Senate.

Lazio

president Claudio Lotito was elected senator for the Molise region.

The 65-year-old politician was a candidate for Silvio Berlusconi's right-wing Forza Italia party, and was elected senator in the Molise district.

Before Lolito, there were other football figures who were able to enter politics in Italy. Silvio Berlusconi was previously elected prime minister, and Adriano Galliani, the former executive director of Milan and one of Berlusconi's close associates, also entered the Senate in 2018.

Dino Violo, the manager of Roma in the 1982-83 season, who won the Serie A championship, was also a senator during that period and was the president of the club at the same time. Lotito took over Lazio in 2004 and managed to save the team from bankruptcy. Lazio won the Coppa Italia three times during his tenure.

Lotito said:

“I ran this election campaign with my heart and soul, authentic feelings that the people of Molise have perceived.

“I’ll bring their demands to the Parliament with the same passion I had during the election campaign.”
