Higuain: If Messi comes to MLS, he will cause a revolution

Gonzalo Higuain believes Lionel Messi's arrival in Major League Soccer (MLS) will transform American football.

Gonzalo Higuain

, who plays for Inter Miami in

Major League Soccer

, stated that the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner has the ability to fundamentally transform the sport in the country. Messi has been linked to Miami and has practiced with the Argentine national team at the club's facilities this week.

“He’s already trained here [in Miami]; he knows the place. Leo is like Maradona, and he can’t live anywhere. It’s his decision, but if he comes here it will cause an extraordinary revolution, no question,” Higuain told.

Messi's current contract with PSG expires at the end of the current season; he will reportedly consider his future options after the 2022 World Cup. A move to MLS would be the league's biggest signing since

David Beckham

is co-owner of Inter Miami.

Higuain was Messi's teammate with

Argentina

for nearly a decade, spanning 2010, 2014, and 2018 World Cups and three

Copa America

tournaments.

La Pulga and Argentina continue their World Cup preparations with friendlies against Honduras (September 23 in Miami) and Jamaica (September 25 in New York) (Sept. 27 at Red Bull Arena).
