Xavi rules Alonso and Bellerin out of Barca's Champions League opener

While Marcos Alonso arrived as a part of Aubameyang's transfer to Barcelona, the Blaugrana signed the La Masia graduate Hector Bellerin on a free transfer as his contract got terminated by Arsenal.

Barcelona

will kick off their

Champions League

season on Wednesday against

Viktoria Plzen

at Nou Camp. While the Blaugrana manager

Xavi Hernandez

confirms there will be "necessary" squad rotations on Wednesday, he rules his new

Spanish

fullbacks out of their Wednesday Champions League opener.

Xavi

told his pre-match conference:

“Yes, there will be rotations. The calendar is very demanding, we need people to have minutes, there is tiredness, fatigue and niggles after the Sevilla match. We have a big squad and we have to rotate. That’s the idea.

“They are two signings, they have to get used to what we are doing. They haven’t had minutes this season and they need a little more physical work. Saturday they will be in the squad.”

Beginning his career at Barcelona,

Hector Bellerin

spent the majority of his career at

Arsenal

. However, despite a quick peak at the

Premier League

side, he fell out of the pecking order once

Mikel Arteta

took the reign as the manager of the Gunners. He joined the Blaugrana on the transfers deadline alongside Marcos Alonso.

As part of the deal for

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

,

Chelsea

sent defender

Marcos Alonso

to Barcelona. The left-back joined on a one-year deal with a €30 million release clause.
