Marcos Alonso completes Barcelona move

After six years at Stamford Bridge, Marcos Alonso is heading back to LaLiga after his part in the Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang transfer saga.

sent defender

Marcos Alonso

to

Barcelona

. The left-back joined on a one-year deal with a €30 million release clause.

The 31-year-old moved to Stamford Bridge in 2016. During his six years with the Blues, he won the Premier League, the FA Cup, and the Champions League. The 31-year-old used to play in the English Premier League for Bolton Wanderers and then Sunderland while on loan from Fiorentina. This is his first time back in LaLiga in over a decade.

Real Madrid's Castilla academy gave birth to Alonso, but he only played one game for the club before he moved to England in 2010. His contract with Chelsea was not renewed after they signed Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, so his short time in Catalonia came to an end when he joined Barcelona.

He is the second defender to join the team at the end of the transfer window. On Thursday, Hector Bellerin came from Arsenal, where his contract had also been cut short.

Alonso has been given the number 17 shirt at the club, and Bellerin has been given the number 2 shirt. Neither player was signed in time to play this weekend against Sevilla in the LaLiga.
