Manchester City are close to an agreement to sign Manuel Akanji

Manchester City are reportedly close to agreeing their sixth signing of the summer.

The

Premier League

champions have already brought in

Erling Haaland

,

Julian Alvarez

, Kalvin Phillips, Sergio Gomez, and Stefan Ortega this summer. They are likely to make another deal before the transfer window closes.

Manchester City

is having trouble in the middle of their defense because Nathan Ake and Aymeric Laporte are out with injuries.

Laporte is still getting better from an injury he got at the end of last season, and Ake had to leave the game when the Sky Blues tied Newcastle United 3–3 at St. James' Park. Pep Guardiola said at a press conference on Tuesday, "I don't know what will happen." He didn't say that there wouldn't be any more signings.

The Athletic says that Manchester City are close to signing

Manuel Akanji

as a backup center back because they keep getting hurt and have a very busy schedule.

David Ornstein and Pol Ballus say that the 27-year-old is almost signed by the Premier League Champions. The Athletic also says that talks are going on about a €17.5 million deal, and it is hoped that a deal will be made.
