Chelsea goalkeeper Berger diagnosed with cancer again

After four years of being free from cancer, the Blues shot-stopper has been diagnosed with thyroid cancer again.

Ann-Katrin Berger

has announced that he has been diagnosed with thyroid cancer again and will star her treatment next-week.

The

Chelsea

and Germany shot-stopper was diagnosed in 2017 during her time with Birmingham City, but she recovered and was named in the PTA Team of the Year.

The 31-year-old announced on Tuesday that after being cancer-free for four years, he is dealing with it once again.

"I've said before that as a sportsperson, you have to fight every day to be the best you can be and that's something I will continue to do,"

she said in a statement.

"I hope by sharing my journey I can help others that find themselves in a similar situation.

"I am working closely with my club doctor and specialist in London, and my treatment will start this week.

"I remain positive that my treatment will be as effective as last time, and I'm looking forward to returning to the pitch and seeing you all at Kingsmeadow and Stamford Bridge."

Berger has had a crucial role for Chelsea in the Women’s Super League victory in the past three seasons. The ex-Paris Saint-Germain shot-stopper, who contributed to the WSL’s golden glove in the 2020-21 season, was included in the Germany squad that made their way to the Euro 2022 last month.
