Capello tells Milan to watch out for the strong rivals in the UCL draw

Fabio Capello hopes Milan avoids Liverpool in the Champions League group stage draw to help them retain the Serie A title.

The team led by

Stefano Pioli

started the season with a 4-2 win over

Udinese

last weekend. Divock Origi and

Charles De Ketelaer

e were added to the team this summer to make it stronger. They still need a new center-back and a new central midfielder.

"Milan is trying to improve their team, but

Juventus

, Inter, Napoli, and Roma will be tough competition. Capello told

La Gazzetta dello Sport

, "There are five teams that have what it takes to go all the way through, and their coaches have already won."

The former player and coach for the Rossoneri thinks that

Milan

is one of the favorites, but he wants to warn the Rossoneri and their coach. "The danger is in the head, especially when you coach players who aren't used to winning all the time. When you win, you might think you've done everything, but at a club like Milan, winning means you've done your job. "They need to stop thinking about the past and the present."

What will be different about Milan this year?

"When opponents see a team with the Scudetto on its chest, they change their minds," said Capello. "They used to think they could win, but now they want to. There is one thing about Milan that makes me worry.

"When I coached the Rossoneri, I wasn't always happy with how hard they worked in practice. The next day, it was my job to get them to pay attention again at the right level. Pioli must pay attention to every little thing that goes wrong and fix it.

"Milan was the best team in the world because everyone on the team wanted to win. It's an idea that Pioli told his players about last year." One goal for the Rossoneri this season will be to make it to the Round of 16 in the Champions League. Last season was the first time they played in Europe's top competition in eight years, but they were eliminated in the group stage.

This time, they will be in pot 1, the "pot of champions." Last year, they were in pot 3, which had Liverpool, Porto, and Atletico Madrid. Capello still thinks Jurgen Klopp's Reds are the team to stay away from.

"In the Champions League draw, you want to avoid City, Liverpool, Real, PSG, and Bayern," said Capello. "Everyone else, except for Liverpool, is in the same pot as Milan."
