Britain's richest man confirms desire to buy Manchester United

British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe is ready to buy Manchester United from the Glazer family.

Bloomberg reported on Wednesday that the Glazers are considering new investment and are prepared to sell a minority stake in

Manchester United

but are not looking to sell the club at the moment.

A spokesperson for Sir Jim Ratcliffe has reacted to this news and has confirmed to The Times newspaper that he is ready to buy United from the Glazers.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe is Britain's richest man and a lifelong Manchester United fan with an estimated wealth of around £10.9 billion.

“If the club is for sale, Jim is definitely a potential buyer,"

a statement read.

The spokesperson added:

“If something like this was possible, we would be interested in talking with a view to long-term ownership.

“This is not about the money that has been spent or not spent. Jim is looking at what can be done now and, knowing how important the club is to the city, it feels like the time is right for a reset."

Ratcliffe who currently owns Ligue 1 side Nice, was interested in buying

Chelsea

last April and submitted a bid worth £4.25bn but in the end, failed to buy the London club.
