Bournemouth signs former Juventus and Barcelona goalkeeper Neto

Eager to get rid of Neto's high salary, the Catalan giants were in the chase of a pursuer for the Brazilian goalkeeper with Celta Vigo and Napoli interested. However, the Brazilian goalkeeper ended up signing for the newly-promoted Premier League side on a free transfer.

Bournemouth

officially announced the arrival of the 33-year-old goalkeeper on a free transfer from

Barcelona

on Sunday. The former Juventus and Valencia keeper penned a one-year deal with the Cherries and will wear the number 13 jersey, providing competition for Mark Travers and Will Dennis at Scott Parker's side.

Bournemouth's chief executive Neill Blake stated:

"To be able to attract a player of Neto's calibre is very pleasing. This is a real coup for the club and we're delighted he has chosen to join us.

"He has vast experience at the very top level of the game so I'm sure he will be a huge asset for us."

Winning Serie A, Coppa Italia, and Copa del Rey throughout his wide career,

Neto

played as a backup option for other keepers at Juventus and Barcelona, and especially at Brazil. Being a regular call-up to the Brazil squad for years, Neto’s only cap comes eight years after his first

Brazil

call-up when he captained the Brazilians to a 5-0 friendly victory over El Salvador.

Neto becomes the Cherries’ fourth summer signing after Joe Rothwell, Ryan Fredericks, and Marcus Tavernier as they kicked off their Premier League campaign on Saturday in a 2-0 victory over Aston Villa.
