Dortmund set to hijack Hellas Verona's Giovanni Simeone from Napoli

While the Hellas Verona forward was reportedly set to finalize his move to Napoli, Dortmund enters the race as they suffered a blow with their new signing being diagnosed with a malignant tumor.

Joining Dortmund from Ajax on a deal worth €34.5 million as Erling Haaland’s replacement,

Sebastian Haller

has undergone surgery to remove a testicular malignant tumor as he is set to undergo chemotherapy treatment for further treatment. Since Dortmund is not going to have his services for a few months, they are on the lookout to bring in a striker to replace him in the meantime.

Now according to

Marca

, a

Dortmund

delegation will fly to Italy on Thursday in the hope of finalizing a deal for

Gio Simeone

, the son of Atletico Madrid boss, Diego. The former Fiorentina striker was reportedly close to completing a move to Napoli while now the report suggests

Juventus

have also appeared as a pursuer as they struggle to agree a deal with Atlético Madrid for Álvaro Morata.

After progressing through the youth ranks, Simeone started his senior career at

River Plate

and earned a €3 million move to Genoa in 2016.  Scoring 17 goals and providing 6 assists last season, the 27-year-old striker holds both Argentine and Spanish nationality but represents Argentina internationally. A competent and efficient finisher with both feet, Simeone is an elegant yet powerful and opportunistic forward who possesses good technical skills as well as flair and finesse on the ball.
