Arsenal defender Nuno Tavares joins Marseille on loan

Arsenal defender Nuno Tavares has joined Marseille on a season-long loan deal.

Nuno Tavares

has signed his contract with

Marseille

after passing medical. Marseille will cover his salary and there is no buy option clause included in the deal.

He was previously set to join Atalanta on loan but that deal collapsed. The deal with Atalanta for Tavares fell through because they wanted an option to buy but Arsenal only wanted a straight loan for their player as they have him in their plans for the future.

The 22-year-old Tavares joined Arsenal from Benfica for £6.8m last summer. He made 28 appearances including 13 starts in the Premier League. The left-back is behind Kieran Tierney and new signing Oleksandr Zinchenko in Mikel Arteta’s plans and therefore decided to leave the club.

Arsenal

has signed five players this summer including Oleksandr Zinchenko, Matt Turner, Marquinhos, Fabio Vieira, and Gabriel Jesus. The north Londoners are still in the market to bolster their squad.

Arsenal spent more than anyone last summer in the transfer market and this year they have spent more than 100 million pounds so far.
