Wolves’ Jimenez is sidelined for a knee injury for “a number of weeks”

Wolverhampton Wanderers suffers a huge blow ahead of the new Premier League campaign as their star striker is ruled out for "a number of weeks" with knee and adductor injuries.

Returning from a 12-month injury last season following a traumatic brain injury and skull fracture in November last year after a clash of heads with the Arsenal defender David Luiz,

Raul Jimenez

is reportedly likely to miss at least a month of action after limping out of a 3-0 friendly win over Besiktas. Jimenez has scored 40 Premier League goals since he arrived in 2018 and has long been among the key players at Molineux.

Wolverhampton Wanderers' official website

revealed the injury through a statement that read:

"Raul came off in the game against Besiktas after he stretched for the ball and felt something in his knee and his groin.

"Scans reveal that he has suffered a medial collateral ligament injury to his knee and a minor strain of his adductor. Neither injury is very serious but he is expected to be out for a number of weeks."

With 30 goals in 97 appearances for

Mexico's national side

, the 31-year-old's setback is a blow ahead of the world cup season. Mexico will compete in Group C of the Qatar World Cup with Poland, Argentina, and Saudi Arabia.

The news will be a huge blow for

Wolves

as well as they are now set to begin the season without a recognized centre forward, they earlier loaned youngster Fabio Silva to Anderlecht.
