Napoli signs Fenerbahce's Kim Min-jae as Koulibaly's replacement

With the departure of Koulibaly to Chelsea in a €40m deal earlier this month, Luciano Spalletti's side signed Fenerbahce’s Kim Min-Jae as the replacement for the 31-year-old centre-back.

Koulibaly

was long thought to be one of the best defenders in Italian football, and with one year left of his contract, he saught his future elsewhere to eventually sign for Chelsea on a €40m deal.

Napoli has officially announced the signing of the 25-year-old centre-back from Fenerbahce for a reported €19.5million fee.

The South Korea international

has 42 caps for his country and will hope to feature when they open their World Cup campaign against Uruguay on November 24.

One of the key parts of Fenerbahce's fierce defense that only conceded 38 league goals last season, Kim has signed a three-year deal with the option of two further seasons in Italy with a release clause of €45million. The 24-year-old has met the back of the net three times in 30 matches he appeared on national duty.

Jose Mourinho tried to lure Kim last season when he was in charge of Tottenham Hotspur as Chelsea had long been interested in the Korean. Kim started his senior career with the K League club Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors before having spells at Beijing Guoan and

Fenerbahçe

. Winning two K League 1 trophy with Jeonbuk Motors and an EAFF Championship with his national side in 2019, it seems Spaletti has found the perfect replacement for the Senegalese centre-back.
