De Gea warns Man Utd can’t have another “disaster” season

The Red Devils ended their 2021-22 season sitting sixth in the Premier League table; however, since Erik ten Hag was appointed, they have been enjoying many victories in the pre-season campaign.

David de Gea

has told his teammates at

Manchester United

that they are not able to afford any more “disaster” following their fruitless 2021-22 season, which was “embarrassing” and “a mess”. They ended the

Premier League

season sitting sixth on the table. Moreover, they failed to end their five-year trophyless spell.

This season, however, with the arrival of Erik ten Hag, they have been enjoying a run of successful game in the pre-season campaign.

Speaking to reporters, De Gea said:

"For me and everyone it was a very tough season, embarrassing sometimes. Some games were a mess, a disaster.

"So we should learn from last season that that cannot happen again because it was tough, it was painful to be there.

"We were not capable to win games and losing games 4-0 or 5-0, it was unacceptable. But sometimes you have to feel the pain to get up and keep going.”

The Red Devils started their pre-season campaign on the right foot when they defeated Liverpool 4-0, before starting their Australia tour with a 4-1 victory over Melbourne Victory.

They also vanquished Crystal Palace 3-1 before drawing the game with Aston Villa.

Ten Hag’s side still have two games left before their new season begins as they lock horns with Atletico Madrid on July 30 before going against Rayo Vallecano one day later.

Their Premier League season starts on August 7 when they face Brighton.
