Allegri: McKennie is best American player in Europe

Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri says Weston McKennie is the best American player in Europe.

The 23-year-old midfielder joined

Juventus

from Schalke on a loan deal in 2020. Juventus exercised their purchase option for €18.5 million on 2021 and signed him on a four-year contract.

McKennie

has scored 5 goals in 55 matches for Juventus. McKennie injured his metatarsal in February 2022 and missed the rest of the season.

Allegri at a pre-season press conference during Juventus pre-season training said:

“McKennie is probably the best American player playing in Europe.

"I think it’s very important for him to continue showing the high levels that he has at Juve.”

McKennie was linked with Tottenham earlier in the summer but Juventus decided to keep him despite the arrival of Paul Pogba.

He recently in an interview about his relationship with Allegri said:

“The words Allegri made me happy. It is important for a player to be in a place where one feels wanted. I have heard of all colors about my hypothetical transfer.

“My agent and I, however, are in close contact, and therefore I would be the first to know if something is true or not.”

Juventus will play with Guadalajara,

Barcelona

, Real Madrid, and Atletico Madrid during their pre-season tour in the USA. Juventus’ season will kick off on August 15, when they face Sassuolo at the Allianz Stadium.
