Luis Suarez is close to a return to his boyhood club Nacional

Luis Suarez left Nacional in 2006, and after spells at Montevideo club, former Liverpool, Barcelona, and Atletico Madrid the Uruguayan has been offered the chance to return to Nacional.

Following the expiration of his contract with Atletico Madrid at the end of June,

Luis Suarez

is yet to sign for a new club while being linked to a variety of clubs. Linked to the Bundesliga giants Dortmund, Serie A newcomers Monza and MLS, it seems the former Barcelona player is bound to return to Nacional.

Nacional president Jose Fuentes told Uruguayan broadcaster

Sport 890

on Friday:

"I am waiting as we had agreed that in two or three days he would answer me. This was Wednesday and we are within the two or three days that we agreed.

"At this time I do not have any confirmation from Luis Suarez."

The

Nacional

director Gonzalo Lucas said earlier on Thursday that the deal was

"a probability"

but

"not yet closed".

"I think that Suarez is the best footballer in the history of Uruguayan football,"

Lucas said.

"It's like a fairy tale, and we have to protect him so that he has a happy ending."

An Uruguay national team legend, Suarez has scored 68 goals in 132 international games. Suarez scored 13 goals and provided 3 assists in 45 matches last season. He joined Atletico in 2020 and scored 34 goals in 83 matches for them. Former Liverpool star helped Atletico to win the La Liga title in 2021.
