Swiss court acquits Blatter, Platini in FIFA corruption trial

The Federal Criminal Court cleared Sepp Blatter and Michel Platini of all charges on Friday.

After a trial at the Federal Criminal Court in Bellinzona, all of the charges against Sepp Blatter and

Michel Platini

were dropped.

Last year,

Sepp Blatter

and Michel Platini, the former presidents of FIFA and

UEFA

, were charged with fraud and other crimes in

Switzerland

because Blatter gave Platini 2 million Swiss francs in 2011.

Blatter was accused of fraud, theft, criminal mismanagement, and making a document look like it was made by someone else. Platini was accused of fraud, taking money without permission, taking part in criminal mismanagement, and making a fake document.

Both men said they had done nothing wrong, and on Friday, the court agreed with them. Blatter got CHF 82,000 to cover the costs of his defense and CHF 20,000 as compensation. Platini got 143,000 Swiss Francs.

reported that Platini said in a statement, "I want to tell all my loved ones how happy I am that justice has finally been done after seven years of lies and trickery.

"During this trial, the truth has come out. I kept saying, "My fight is against unfairness." I first won a game." Blatter was in court on Friday and said, "I have never been innocent in my life, but I am innocent in this case."
