Marseille’s Mandanda leaves the club after 613 appearances

Marseille announced that Steve Mandanda is about to depart the club on Wednesdat after a 15-year spell with Les Olympiens.

has departed the club as they reached mutual agreement, two years before his contract reaching its end, having featured in 613 games.

Mandanda, who has been caped 34 times for France, signed an extension contract at the Stade Velodrome in 2020 to keep him until 2024.

However, Marseille pronounced on Wednesday that he would leave sooner, amid links with

Rennes

and

Nice

, the Ligue 1 sides, recently.

"Olympique de Marseille and Steve Mandanda have decided to separate by mutual agreement,"

read a statement on the club's website.

"OM would like to sincerely thank Steve for everything he has brought to the club since 2007. With 613 games in the Olympian jersey, he has unquestionably become an Olympian legend.

"The club wishes him the best for the future."

His mammoth appearances tally is Marseille’s highest ever, and all of them were starters after he made a move to the club on a loan deal at first in 2007.

However, the 37-year-old appeared in nine matches, keeping five matches clean sheets, as Marseille ended the Ligue 1 runners-up in the 2022-23 season, losing his number one spot to ex-Real Betis and Roma shot-stopper Pau Lopez.

He played for Marseille for 15 years, Mandanda did play for Crystal Palace for one season in 2016-17 before making a move back to Stade Veledrome as a free agent.
