Man City signed Leeds United star Phillips

The English star will play in the midfield position for Citizens.

Kalvin Phillips

joined

Manchester City

from

Leeds United

for £45 million.

City, who previously signed Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund, were looking for another midfielder to compete with Rodri after Fernandinho's departure. Phillips is recognized by the club as a suitable rival for the City star and has signed a 6-year contract with the Citizens.

Last month it was announced that City had agreed a £42 million deal with Leeds United and now it has been announced that the deal has been finalised.

Txiki Begiristain, City's director of football said:

"Kalvin is a player that we have long admired, and at both domestic and international level, he has proved his fantastic ability and quality over the past few seasons.

"His reading of the game, alongside his passing ability, energy and drive make him a formidable talent and he is a player who has a fantastic will to win.

"We feel he will be a superb addition to our squad and that he will complement our game perfectly.

"Everyone here is looking forward to watch Kalvin play and develop even further over the next few years."

Phillips made the first team from the Leeds academy and made 29 appearances for Bielsa's side in their first season back in the Premier League as they finished ninth in the league. However, last season with the injuries that happened to him, he could not perform well and Leeds United escaped relegation to the Championship in the final days.
