Milan president: I had no doubts about Maldini's contract extension

Milan President Paolo Scaroni says he never had doubts about Paolo Maldini's contract extension.

AC Milan

announced on Friday that technical director Paolo Maldini and sporting director Frederic Massara have signed two-year contracts. Their previous contracts had expired on Thursday at the end of June.

Despite playing a key role in winning the

Serie A

after 11 years, the pair came close to leaving Milan due to disagreement with the club’s owners but after weeks of speculation both decided to extend their contracts.

“Perhaps, there have been too many rumors, but we’ve never stopped. The club has remained focused on the market, trying to secure important commercial partnerships,”

Milan President Paolo Scaroni told Il Corriere Della Sera.

“I’ve always said I was optimistic and that Maldini and Massara would have continued their precious work here.

“Today, we are all convinced that we can continue this journey together to achieve new targets. The club has great professionals, we are a solid reality with shareholders who always support us. Ricky and Paolo surely represent our strength.”

Milan so far has signed Divock Origi as a free player. They also converted defender Alessandro Florenzi's loan move from AS Roma into a permanent deal. Milan also is in negotiation with Chelsea over signing

Hakim Ziyech

on a loan deal.

Milan last month announced that RedBird Capital Partners has reached a takeover agreement with current owners Elliott Management for 1.2 billion euros.
