Milan confirm new contracts for Maldini and Massara

The Technical Area Director and the Sporting Director renew their contracts with AC Milan.

AC Milan

confirmed on Friday that technical director Paolo Maldini and sporting director Frederic Massara have signed two-year contracts. Their previous contracts had expired on Thursday at the end of June.

"This deal highlights the importance of continuity we see throughout the club as we continue to strengthen and grow,"

Milan said in a statement.

Despite playing a key role in winning the

Serie A

after 11 years, the pair came close to leaving Milan due to disagreement with the club’s owners but after weeks of speculation both decided to extend their contracts.

Milan has only signed Divock Origi as a free player so far this summer. Center-back Sven Botman was Milan’s top target this summer but in the end, they failed to reach an agreement with Lille and he joined Newcastle. Milan also is interested in signing Renato Sanchez but Paris Saint-Germain is the favorite to sign the midfielder.

Milan last month announced that RedBird Capital Partners has reached a takeover agreement with current owners Elliott Management for 1.2 billion euros. The takeover will take place over the summer months and is expected to be finalized by September of this year.
