Chelsea extend deal with Gilmour despite many midfield options

The Blues boss has a lot of midfield options to choose from and they have penned an extension contract with Billy Gilmour.

Chelsea

have chosen to trigger

Billy Gilmour

’s one-year extension deal until 2024. The youngster made a move to the club from Rangers in 2017 and made his way to the squad under Frank Lampard’s reign. He had his debut in 2019 in the battle against

Sheffield United

.

The Scotland international only had 192 minutes of Premier League game in that season, before playing in five matches in the next campaign.

Going against N’Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic, Jorginho and Ruben Loftus-Cheek for a place in the starting lineup, Gilmour went to Norwich City for a loan spell in the 2021-22 season.

The 21-year-old played in 24 games for the Canaries, starting 21 of them, and learned a lot during those 1,858 minutes as Norwich got relegated to Championship.

Although Thomas Tuchel does not have a clear plan for the player, with Loanee Conor Gallagher returning and contending for a place in the team, the Blues have penned an extension with Gilmour.

He first penned a four-year contract with the Rangers; however, it was due to reach its end in 2023. Chelsea then added a year to his deal.
