UEFA confirms: Teams from Belarus & Ukraine will not be drawn together

Because Belarus participates in Russia's attack on Ukraine, UEFA competitions will not feature teams from the two nations.

Belarus

and

Ukraine

will not be placed together in the future, according to UEFA.

Following Russia's invasion of Ukraine, European football's ruling body has already barred Russian teams from competing in international competitions.

Belarusian teams were sanctioned as a result of their participation in assisting the invasion.

UEFA had previously agreed that no matches would be held in Belarus, and that Belarusian fans would be barred from attending notional home games.

In a separate action made on Friday, UEFA said it will bar Belarusian and Ukrainian teams from competing in future events.

"The UEFA Executive Committee will remain on standby to convene further meetings to reassess the legal and factual situation as it evolves and adopt further decisions as necessary," a statement read.

Meanwhile, UEFA's coronavirus guidelines for the forthcoming Women's Euro 2022 have been accepted.

Any players who contract COVID-19 or "who have been put in isolation in any way" would be classified as "cases of serious sickness," allowing them to be replaced in their country's team before the tournament's opening match.
