Rummenigge hails Nagelsmann as he is unsure about Lewandowski's stay

Following Bayern Munich's eleventh consecutive Bundesliga triumph, former CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge discussed the significance of the title for Julian Nagelsmann and spoke candidly about Robert Lewandowski's future.

After Julian Nagelsmann's first year, the 66-year-old Karl-Heinz Rummenigge assesses

FC Bayern Munich

. Although the previous CEO is impressed, he believes there is still potential for progress.

"I can only congratulate the club for the title. That has never happened in the history of German football. The Bundesliga is the most honest title. It was always the basis for FC Bayern. When you win it 10 times in a row, that's great.

"They have won the most important title. In the

Champions League

, the fruits hang very high. Unfortunately, they lost out to Villarreal in the quarter-finals, which was a bit of a surprise. They need to do better next year. The aim is to always reach the semis.

"It won't be easy. The

Bundesliga

has to be careful that it remains competitive, not only domestically but also internationally. They need money for that. The English have far more TV money and multi-billionaire owners. It won't be easy to stay competitive.

"We shouldn't forget that Julian is a young coach who also needs to gain experience. The experience he gained at this club this season is very valuable to him. I wish the club and him, of course, all the best in achieving the club's goals in the Champions League"

Rummenigge on Lewandowski possibly leaving on a free next year:

"I don't know if he will renew his contract. But he has a contract until 2023. I'm optimistic that he will still be there next year. Contract talks are taking place at a time when the

Premier League

and PSG have made large-scale transfers.

"Lewandowski came on a free transfer in 2014. He would be there for nine years if he then left on a free transfer. Robert has won every title that can be won in club football with Bayern and made a huge contribution.

"He was a top transfer. He exceeded expectations. If he stays, everyone will be happy"
